The Good News Rescue Mission has a number of projects in motion to keep bringing the Good News to the poor, homeless, or needy in Shasta County. These projects below are a glimpse into the many ways we are providing emergency, long-term, and equipping services to those in our community.

Micro-Shelters at Veda Street Village

Veda Street Village is a 17 unit micro-shelter village that will provide transitional non-congregate shelter to help men and women move off the streets and take the next step towards finding permanent housing.
Our micro-shelter village will have two types of shelters on it. Eight Pallet shelters that will be assembled on-site when the constructions crews are ready and nine wooden shelters built off-site that will be delivered and hooked up. The village is conveniently located on the Mission Campus which allows us to utilize many of the resources already available such as daily hot meals, showers, day resource center, health clinic, and strong volunteer community.

Through a grant from the City of Redding and donations from lead supporters we’ve raised enough funding to start the construction. In order to finish the project and operate it to full capacity we need additional funding. Please click here to make a donation today and support this life changing project.

Grant Funding: $100,000 Encampment Resolution Funding (ERF) Program through the City of Redding. The Mission is providing more than 50% of the project budget toward this project from donor funds raised in December 2023. The Total Project Budget is estimated at $220,000.

Estimated Completion Date: January 2025

Sober Living Home

Our first Sober Living Home on the Westside of Downtown Redding will house 6-8 graduates from the Recovery Program, including a “house leader”. After decades of offering addiction recovery programming, we learned of the importance of having transitional, community housing available to graduates as they rebuild their lives back towards independence.

Grant Funding: Although a majority of this project (purchase and remodel) is donor-funded, the City of Redding awarded a $75,000 grant toward some improvements.

Estimated Completion Date: October 2024

Temporary Day Center

As a part of Housing and Homelessness Incentive Program (HHIP) funding, the City of Redding awarded the Mission to offer a Temporary Day Center at the current Dining Hall while the permanent Day Resource Center is being remodeled at 3145 Veda Street. This program has averaged 100 people in daily average attendance and 75 new, unduplicated entries into HMIS. The Mission is offering cooling, warming, meals, classes and other activities to guests of the Day Center.

Grant Funding: $157,000 awarded to be applied toward wages of Mission staff at the Temporary Day Center.

Remodel Projects

The Mission is remodeling and expanding the bathrooms in the Dining Hall, completing an overhaul of the current “Resource Center” (Intake Building), new roofs on a few buildings, Day Storage Area for Dining Hall guests, and Secure Bike Storage on the campus.

Grant Funding: $500,000 from the Encampment Resolution Funding (ERF) Program through the City of Redding.

Day Resource Center

For years Shasta County and the City of Redding have expressed a desire to have a community resource center for the homeless and those experiencing hardship in the region. The dream was to have a single-point of entry for all critical services available city-wide, cutting through the “red tape”, and helping guests navigate easier to the help they need. Those services might include but not be limited to; housing vouchers, meals, computer lab, showers, storage, documents, DMV, coffee shop, bike repair, dog run, AA meetings, medical, and mental health services.

With the help of the At Home group of agencies and elected leaders from the County and City, the Mission was awarded funding to purchase an existing warehouse off Veda Street for $875,000 and use the remaining $2,125,000 for architecture, engineering, grading, exterior and interior construction of the facility.

Once re-developed, the Mission will operate the facility but services will be offered by a collection of partnered agencies, non-profits, and government entities. The Day Resource Center will be given a “community name” and will not carry any branding of the Good News Rescue Mission.

Grant Funding: $3,000,000 from the Encampment Resolution Funding (ERF) Program through the City of Redding. The funding will go toward the purchase and remodel of 3145 Veda Street, an 8,000 sf existing warehouse.

Estimated Completion Date: April 2026

Caretaker’s Quarters (Accessory Dwelling Unit)

The Mission purchased a 600 sf, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath home with a small office. This will likely be the home of an employee with lived experience who will be the “Caretaker” of one of the Mission’s emergency shelter facilities.

The unit was built by US-Offsite and inspected by the State of California during construction. When ready, the unit will be delivered to its new home on the Mission’s campus at the old community garden plot on the corner of Grange and Venda Street.

Grant Funding: TBD

Estimated Completion Date: March 2025
